There is a wide range of potential policy options to address emissions in buildings. One approach gaining traction within Municipal and Regional Governments is the implementation of building performance standards (BPS). BPS set specific performance targets that buildings must meet within a certain timeframe to reduce energy consumption and/or greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This policy tool encourages building owners to monitor, track, and understand how their buildings are performing and conduct appropriate upgrades to their buildings to improve energy efficiency and lower emissions.
Canadian municipalities are in the design stage of their BPS policy journeys. With ample information on how to design BPS, this webinar will explore the perspectives of US-based building owners and industry stakeholder who have experienced BPS initiatives firsthand.
During this webinar, you will receive an overview of the BPS landscape in Canada and in the US. We will give you the opportunity to explore what is working, the challenges faced, and potential strategies to increase the impact and effectiveness of this regulatory approach. We will provide useful resources, and you will hear from building owners/managers working to comply with BPS and managers in the cities responsible for those standards. Additionally, you will have the opportunity ask questions and to share your experiences through participant polling.
